Tuskegee Airmen Exhibit | Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

In early 2025, Linear Creative was invited to bid on a meaningful project that would both elevate public awareness and honor the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen – the first African American military aviators in the U.S. Army Air Forces (which later became the U.S. Air Force). The exhibit was initiated by the North Coast Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen, Inc., a nonprofit organization committed to educating the public and preserving the Airmen’s enduring legacy of courage, discipline, and service. The completed exhibit will be on display to the public beginning July 1, 2025. Its location in the airport’s baggage area ensures visibility and accessibility to thousands of travelers each day.

Understanding the historical importance of the project – and the limited resources of the nonprofit – Linear Creative extended its nonprofit discount and partnered with SpeedPro, a Cleveland-based production and installation firm known for high-quality large-format work.

A Powerful Two-Part Exhibit

1. Exit Wall Exhibit (23′ W x 10′-3″ H)
   This expansive horizontal wall greets viewers with a striking visual narrative that highlights the broader story of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. The design blends elements of African American culture with patriotic themes – rich reds, deep blues, and symbolic graphics – creating an emotional, educational, and visually dynamic experience. The photographic assets were thoughtfully curated from historical archives provided by the North Coast Chapter to ensure authenticity and respect for the legacy portrayed.

2. Local Heroes Pillars (28.5″ W x 27.75″ D x 10′-3″ H)
Two four-sided freestanding pillars honor a local Tuskegee Airman, featuring portrait illustrations created by students from the Cleveland School of the Arts. These individualized tributes celebrate the courage and personal contributions of Northeast Ohio’s own veterans, giving a powerful local connection to a national story.
